At Crow’s Hall Debenham, we are pleased to stage a very small number of our own events each year, working with a wide range of hand-picked partners – both local and international.
Crow’s Hall events are predominantly charity-focused, in support of the local community or special interest groups.
Over recent years these have ranged from first class opera evenings in the barn and private views of art in the garden to welcoming pupils from the nearby high school for their drama productions and hosting the village country fair or ‘fête’. We also hold a popular wedding open day and offer a number of house tours.
‘Eventing’ in a different sense of the word is one of our passions too. We share workshops led by top international equestrian trainers at Crow’s Hall on an invitation only basis.
Our huge Tudor Barn with its fine exposed timber roof and impressive acoustics are a stunning location for our all too brief encounters with the London Festival Opera.
So far, this remote Suffolk country setting has been graced with emotional rollercoasters such as Verdi’s ‘La Traviata’, Puccini’s Tosca and Mozart’s ‘Magic Flute’.
A black tie and truly sociable occasion, which benefits a first-class charitable cause.
Suffolk’s Glyndebourne perhaps?
Watch this space.
Crow’s Hall gardens often resound to easy jazz sounds, but our Jazz in the Barn event has become a firm annual favourite.
The charity event hosted in Crow’s Hall Tudor long barn concentrates on filling the awesome space to the rafters with the sounds of traditional New Orleans jazz.
The authentic half-timbered barn has superb acoustics even when it is accommodating live audiences of over 100 people and lends itself to cabaret-style set-ups as well as theatre-style seating.
Before proceedings, the Crow’s Hall garden island is treasured as a relaxing place to sit and sip at a pre-concert Prosecco al fresco, enjoying the rolling rural Suffolk views.
Keep an eye out for our social media and blog posts for more information and reviews.
It is a pleasure to give students from Debenham High School the opportunity to share their dramatic performances with an audience in a spectacularly different setting to their school hall!
Many of the young performers who have trodden the boards over recent years in the Tudor barn at Crow’s Hall are surprised to discover such wonderful buildings right on their Debenham doorstep.
They have often described the place as “awesome”, but their audiences have come to the same conclusion about their performances of ‘The Tempest’ and their commemorative WWI-based drama.
We look forward sharing the authentic venue again soon with Debenham’s promising future Thespians!
Crow’s Hall has close links with the Gipping Riding Society through its owner, Caroline Spurrier, a keen horsewoman who is highly accomplished in dressage.
She very much enjoys sharing the ‘playground’ at her home with equally passionate fellow riders of all ages for occasional dressage events and training workshops through this friendly local equestrian community.
In the last few years, Crow’s Hall has witnessed some first-class dressage training events, some led by eminent internationally renowned riders and trainers.
Crow’s Hall is delighted to support the Historic Houses visits programme which allows us to share the Hall, its stories and some delicious tea and cake (!) with visitors from East Anglia and often much further afield.
The handful of owner-led house tours also include viewings of the island gardens and take place most years, on specific published dates. Full details and all bookings are online through the Historic Houses tours scheme.
We are also able to welcome house tours for groups through the same scheme.
Please see our gallery for a small taste of what these house tours offer
Our popular wedding open day is usually held in the spring and is a wonderful opportunity to showcase everything which Crow’s Hall has to offer.
