Where to tie the knot

Crow’s Hall may have a knot garden, but as we are a private stately home, we do not have a wedding licence, so tying the knot at Crow’s Hall is not a possibility. We believe firmly that the freedom to choose should be all yours. Many of our couples decide to tie the knot at St Mary Magdalene Church which is just a mile or so down the lane from Crow’s Hall but there are many other places locally to get married, some with historic connections to Crow’s Hall. See below for a few of our recommendations.

St. Mary’s Church

DEBENHAM | 1 mile away

St Mary Magdalene Debenham is one of Suffolk’s most beautiful medieval churches. Inside, tall and slender arcades create a synergy between the side aisles and the nave. Soaring almost 50ft over the nave is a single hammer-beamed roof with oak timbers dated to the 15th century.

There are some very special local connections here too, which make a marriage ceremony at St Mary Magdalene Debenham and celebrations at Crow’s Hall a very fitting combination. Sir Charles Framlingham, who built Crow’s Hall in the 1500’s has an impressive tomb with life-sized effigies in the south side of the chancel.

The Athenaeum

Bury St Edmunds | 25 miles away

The Athenaeum is a beautiful Grade I listed venue located on Angel Hill, in the very heart of historic Bury St Edmunds. The Old Billiard Room and the Library are used for approved premises ceremonies. And the beautiful Abbey Gardens, located opposite The Athenaeum offer some fantastic photo opportunities.
